India Oversees Safe Return of About 1,000 Nationals From Qatar Amid War
About 1,000 Indians stranded in Qatar returned to India.
Around 1,000 Indian nationals have safely returned to India from Qatar amid the escalating conflict in West Asia, officials said, as part of ongoing efforts to assist citizens affected by regional tensions. The Indian Embassy in Doha coordinated with airlines and local authorities to facilitate repatriation flights and alternative travel routes.
According to the embassy’s update, approximately 1,000 Indian passengers flew on Qatar Airways flights from Doha to New Delhi, Mumbai and Kochi on March 10, marking significant progress in repatriation efforts for those stranded in transit or on short-term visits. The mission expressed its gratitude to the airline for prioritizing passengers on humanitarian grounds amidst challenging circumstances.
In addition to organised flights, the embassy arranged temporary transit visas valid for 96 hours for Indians to transit through the Salwa border into Saudi Arabia, allowing them to continue onward travel to India where direct flights were unavailable or disrupted. Officials noted that another Qatar Airways flight was scheduled for March 11 to assist additional travellers.

The repatriation operation also included humanitarian assistance. The embassy thanked Indian volunteers in Qatar who helped a family repatriate the mortal remains of a compatriot who died of natural causes, ensuring that emergency cases were handled with care and support.
The evacuation from Qatar is part of broader efforts by Indian authorities to bring home citizens from countries affected by the US-Iran-Israel conflict, which has disrupted airspace and travel across parts of the Gulf region. Indian missions have been actively coordinating flights, issuing advisories and maintaining 24/7 control rooms to support nationals during the evolving crisis.
Government officials have highlighted that, since the outbreak of the conflict, tens of thousands of Indian expatriates have returned from the Gulf region. These efforts underscore the scale of repatriation underway and the Indian government’s focus on the safety and welfare of its diaspora in the face of regional instability.
