“I Sold My Land for RJD”: Denied Ticket, Aspirant’s Street Meltdown Outside Lalu’s Residence
Denied ticket, Madan Sah protests outside Lalu’s home.
In a dramatic spectacle that has sent shockwaves through Bihar’s political landscape, Madan Prasad Sah, a ticket aspirant for the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), staged a public meltdown outside party president Lalu Prasad Yadav’s residence in Patna on Sunday. Denied a ticket for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, Sah tore his clothes, rolled on the road, and chased Lalu’s car in a desperate protest that has since gone viral on social media. The incident has ignited a firestorm of controversy, with Sah alleging that the RJD demanded Rs 2.70 crore for a ticket, only to betray him when he refused to pay.
Sah, who narrowly lost to the BJP’s Randhir Singh in the Madhuban Assembly constituency in 2020, claimed that RJD leader Sanjay Yadav demanded the hefty sum as a condition for securing the party nomination. “Lalu Prasad Yadav promised me a ticket for the Bihar elections,” Sah told reporters, his voice trembling with anguish. “When I was asked to cough up Rs 2.70 crore, I managed by putting my children’s weddings on hold. Now I am finished. They should at least return my money.” He further alleged that the ticket was instead awarded to Santosh Kushwaha, whom he branded a “BJP agent.”
The visuals of Sah’s protest are nothing short of harrowing. Clad in tattered clothes, he was seen lying on the road, shouting accusations, and attempting to confront Lalu as the RJD chief’s car sped away. “I come from an educated family with 10 doctors. I’ve worked for Lalu Yadav’s party since 1990, and this is how they treat me?” Sah lamented. He accused Tejashwi Yadav, Lalu’s son and a key RJD leader, of arrogance and claimed that ticket allocations were being sold for exorbitant sums. “Tejashwi doesn’t meet people. Sanjay Yadav is behind all this. I came here to die,” he told ANI.

Sah’s allegations paint a damning picture of internal RJD politics. He claimed that in 2020, both Lalu and Tejashwi summoned him to Ranchi, where a survey indicated strong support from the Teli community in Madhuban, assuring him a ticket. “I’m a poor man. I sold my land to serve the party,” Sah said, his voice breaking. “They promised me, but now they’ve given the ticket to a BJP agent. They will not form the government.” His accusations of ticket-selling and favoritism have raised serious questions about the RJD’s candidate selection process as the Bihar elections loom.
With nominations for the Assembly elections set to close on Monday, and polling scheduled for November 6 and 11, the timing of Sah’s outburst could not be more critical. The results, due on November 14, will determine the next government in Bihar, and the RJD, a key player in the opposition alliance, now faces intense scrutiny. RJD leaders have remained conspicuously silent on Sah’s allegations, offering no comment on the claims of money being demanded for tickets. This silence has only fueled speculation and public outrage, with social media amplifying the viral visuals of Sah’s protest.
The incident has cast a shadow over the RJD’s campaign, raising broader concerns about transparency and fairness in Bihar’s political arena. As voters prepare to head to the polls, Sah’s public breakdown serves as a stark reminder of the high stakes and deep divisions within the state’s political machinery.
