Haryana CM Targets Punjab AAP on Flood Relief Discrepancy, AAP Fires Back

Haryana CM Saini questions Punjab's flood relief claims, AAP counters accusing him of lying.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Saturday released funds under various schemes for farmers and beneficiaries of the Deendayal Ladli Lakshmi Yojana but used the occasion to criticise the Punjab government and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for alleged mishandling of flood compensation. Saini claimed that while Punjab farmers were promised Rs 50,000 per hectare, only Rs 20,000 per acre was actually disbursed, questioning the whereabouts of the remaining funds.

Saini accused AAP and Congress of exploiting farmers, asserting that his government prioritises agricultural welfare. He highlighted Haryana’s initiatives, including direct paddy sowing support, crop diversification, and the Bhavantar Bharpai Yojana (price deficiency scheme), and stressed that these measures genuinely benefit farmers, unlike the Punjab administration.

On stubble burning, Saini criticised AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal for blaming farmers, arguing that his government had implemented proper policies to prevent it while the Punjab government focused only on political mileage. He also cited examples from Samrala city in Punjab, claiming potato farmers were struggling without adequate support.

Responding sharply, AAP Punjab General Secretary Baltej Pannu called Saini’s remarks false. Pannu stated that Punjab has compensated farmers for crop damage, livestock losses, and even families of deceased victims during floods, adding that the state did not even receive Rs 1,600 crore in central relief funds promised for flood management.

The exchange underscores growing political tensions between Haryana and Punjab governments, with both sides emphasising their commitment to farmer welfare. As elections approach, the dispute over flood relief and crop compensation is likely to remain a contentious issue in public discourse.
