Gujarat Father Arrested for Murdering Daughter Over Son Preference
Father kills daughter for wanting a son!
A horrific tragedy unfolded in Gujarat’s Kheda district when Vijay Solanki, 34, was arrested for allegedly pushing his seven-year-old daughter, Bhoomika, into the Narmada canal on June 10, leading to her death. The incident, initially reported as an accidental drowning, was exposed as murder after Anjana Solanki, Vijay’s wife, confessed to police, unable to bear the guilt of concealing the truth.
On the evening of June 10, Vijay, Anjana, and Bhoomika were returning from a temple visit in Kapadvanj on a two-wheeler. Anjana requested to visit her parents, but Vijay, furious over not having a son, refused, saying, “I wanted a boy, and you gave birth to a girl.” Around 8 PM, he stopped near Waghavat bridge, lured Bhoomika to the canal’s edge under the pretense of showing her fish, and pushed her into the fast-flowing water. Anjana, devastated, was threatened with divorce if she spoke out and was later dropped at her parents’ home.
The couple initially claimed Bhoomika slipped while watching fish, leading Atarsumba police to register an accidental death case. Suspicion arose when Anjana’s parents questioned the story, prompting intense police interrogation. On July 14, Anjana broke down, revealing Vijay’s act and guiding police to the crime scene. Bhoomika’s body and slippers were recovered from the canal.

Kheda SP Rajesh Gadhiya confirmed Vijay’s arrest on July 15, stating, “Anjana’s complaint exposed the motive—Vijay’s obsession with having a male child.” The couple, married for 11 years, frequently argued over their two daughters, with Vijay torturing Anjana since the birth of their three-year-old second daughter. Police are probing additional angles, including possible superstitious beliefs.
The case has sparked outrage on social media, with posts condemning gender bias and calling for justice. Vijay faces charges under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code, with investigations ongoing to ensure a watertight case.
