Gehlot Accuses BJP of Letting Rajasthan Sink in Tragedy and Corruption
Ex-CM blasts state govt for failing on all fronts.
Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led state government on Tuesday, accusing it of failing to curb a wave of tragedies and rampant corruption that he claims have engulfed the state. Speaking to reporters in Bundi while en route to Kota to attend the funeral of Bharat Singh in Kundanpur, Sangod, Gehlot painted a grim picture of governance under the current regime, asserting that “tragedies and corruption are happening everywhere, and the government has no control over the situation.”
Gehlot’s remarks come in the wake of a series of devastating incidents in Rajasthan, including the reported deaths of at least three children allegedly linked to contaminated cough syrups in various districts. The crisis was compounded by a massive fire at the trauma centre of SMS Hospital in Jaipur on Sunday night, which claimed the lives of six out of 11 critically ill patients. These incidents have sparked widespread outrage and raised serious questions about the state’s healthcare and regulatory systems.
When asked about whether there should be calls for the resignation of responsible ministers, Gehlot sidestepped a direct answer but highlighted a deeper systemic issue. “Where can people go with their grievances? There’s no mechanism in the system to even file a complaint,” he said, underscoring what he perceives as a lack of accountability in the BJP administration.

Gehlot further accused the government of dismantling the welfare and health schemes introduced during his Congress-led tenure. “All our initiatives, like healthcare programs and welfare schemes, have either been stopped or significantly weakened. Pensioners are not receiving their payments on time, and MNREGA workers are waiting months for their wages,” he said. He criticized the government for prioritizing publicity over substantive action, stating, “There’s a lot of hype, but no real work is happening on the ground.”
The former chief minister also pointed to what he described as pervasive corruption, claiming it has taken root across the state with no effective measures to address it. “The government has lost its grip on the system. Corruption is flourishing, and the administration is failing to deliver justice or services to the people,” Gehlot added.
As Rajasthan grapples with these crises, Gehlot’s remarks have intensified the political heat on the BJP government, with opposition leaders rallying to demand answers and accountability. The recent tragedies have also sparked public concern about the safety of medical products and the state’s preparedness for emergencies, putting further pressure on the administration to act swiftly. With no clear response from the ruling party yet, the spotlight remains on how the government will address these mounting challenges and restore public confidence.
