Gautam Adani Reveals India’s Most Ambitious Airport Yet

Adani reviews Navi Mumbai airport ahead of launch, boosting India’s aviation growth.

Gautam Adani, Chairperson of the Adani Group, conducted a comprehensive review of the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) in preparation for its much-anticipated inauguration on October 8. The visit underscored the project’s significance as a transformative addition to India’s aviation infrastructure. During his tour, Adani engaged with a diverse group of contributors, including differently-abled staff, construction workers, women employees, engineers, artisans, firefighters, and security personnel, acknowledging their collective efforts in bringing the airport to fruition.

In a heartfelt post on X, Adani shared a video capturing the essence of the visit, describing the airport as “a living wonder—a monument shaped by thousands of hands and hearts.” He expressed profound gratitude to the workforce, noting that their spirit will resonate through every flight and passenger that passes through NMIA. “When millions of flights take to the skies and billions walk through these halls, the spirit of these people will echo through every takeoff and every step,” Adani wrote, concluding with a patriotic “Jai Hind.”

The Navi Mumbai International Airport, located near Ulwe and Panvel, received a significant milestone on the same day with the issuance of an Aerodrome Licence for public use by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). This licence authorizes NMIA to operate as a regular hub for aircraft landings and takeoffs, paving the way for its operational launch.

Scheduled for inauguration during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit on October 8-9, as confirmed by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, NMIA is poised to become a cornerstone of regional connectivity. Designed as a greenfield project, the airport will follow a twin-airport model, similar to global counterparts like Dubai’s DXB–DWC, London’s Heathrow–Gatwick, and New York’s JFK–Newark. The first phase of NMIA is expected to handle 20 million passengers per annum (MPPA) and manage 0.5 million metric tons (MMT) of cargo, with plans for expansion across five phases to accommodate future growth.

The development of NMIA reflects the Adani Group’s commitment to enhancing India’s aviation infrastructure, promising to elevate the region’s economic and logistical capabilities. As the countdown to the inauguration begins, the airport stands as a testament to collaborative effort and visionary ambition, ready to soar as a new gateway to India.
