Four Individuals Confirmed Dead And Fifty Injured In US Airstrike Targeting Location In Iran

An Iranian official said on Tuesday that at least four people, including a young child, were killed and more than 50 others were wounded when a United States strike hit a wedding celebration in the city of Kuhestak, in Sirik county of Hormozgan province, in southern Iran. The Iranian Red Crescent said in a statement posted on X that shrapnel from a US missile attack struck a residential home where the wedding was taking place, adding that more than 50 people were injured and four, including a child, were killed. Later reports from Iranian state media put the death toll at five, though figures continued to be updated as the situation developed through the day.

A video shared by an Iranian government account showed extensive debris and damage at the site of the wedding in Sirik, with people heard screaming in the background. Earlier in the day, Ahmad Nafisi, deputy governor of Hormozgan province, had given a lower initial toll, telling Iranian state television that two people had been killed and a number of others wounded, with figures rising as further casualties were confirmed. Reza Shahidiyan, the governor of Sirik county, later told Iran's state broadcaster IRIB that a total of 63 people had been wounded in the strike, with 50 of them women and children, and that all of the injured had been transported to a hospital in the nearby city of Minab, where they were reported to be in stable condition.

The southern county of Sirik lies along the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a narrow waterway through which roughly a fifth of the world's oil normally flows and which has been a focal point of the broader conflict between the United States and Iran. The United States said it was carrying out strikes against targets linked to Iran's Revolutionary Guards, citing what it described as recent attempted attacks by Iranian forces against commercial shipping in the strait and against American service members deployed to the region. It was not immediately clear what specific target the US strike near the wedding site had been aimed at.

Iranian state television reported that US strikes also hit a fishmeal factory on nearby Qeshm Island, along with several other civilian sites in Hormozgan province, including a fishing pier and a Ports and Maritime Organization tower in Sirik. Separately, the US military said it had struck the civilian Jiroft Airport in central Iran's Kerman province, with a projectile hitting an area outside the runway; officials said this strike caused no casualties or damage to airport infrastructure. Iran's military said it responded by carrying out retaliatory strikes on US bases and assets in Jordan, Bahrain and Iraq, and Iran's Armed Forces General Staff said the country's military would deliver what it described as further significant strikes against the United States.

The strikes on Tuesday followed earlier attacks over the weekend that had abruptly ended roughly a month without major military action, reigniting a conflict that has spiked global oil prices and drawn continued international attention. In a social media post, US President Donald Trump warned that Iran would face intensified retaliation if it responded to what he called a justified American strike, saying any Iranian retaliation would be met with a harsher response. The renewed hostilities mark the latest escalation in a war between the United States and Iran that has now continued for more than six months, with both sides contesting control over access to the Strait of Hormuz.
