Former Union Minister RK Singh Suspended by BJP for Six Years Over Anti-Party Activities

Former Union Minister and senior BJP leader from Bihar, RK Singh, has been suspended by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for six years over charges of anti-party activities. This disciplinary action came just a day after the BJP secured a significant victory in the Bihar state elections, signaling the party’s intent to tighten internal discipline and address dissent.

RK Singh, a former Member of Parliament from Arrah and ex-Minister of Power in Narendra Modi's first cabinet, has been critical of the NDA leadership and the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government. His opposition to party decisions and vocal allegations, including claims related to a Rs 62,000 crore electricity scam in Bihar, reportedly led to the disciplinary moves against him. The party’s formal notice accused Singh of indulging in activities harmful to BJP’s interests and ordered him to clarify his position within a week, failing which he could face expulsion.

The suspension reflects the BJP’s broader post-election “clean-up” strategy aimed at consolidating leadership and minimizing fractures within its ranks. Singh, who lost his parliamentary seat in the 2024 general elections, had previously been sidelined from key party committees ahead of the Bihar polls, indicating growing rifts within the state unit.
