Fadnavis Urges Ministers to End Turf War Over Powers

Fadnavis slams ministers’ turf war!

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday urged his cabinet to halt their “letter war” and resolve disputes directly with him, addressing a public feud between Social Justice Minister Sanjay Shirsat (Shiv Sena) and Minister of State Madhuri Misal (BJP).

The conflict erupted after Shirsat objected to Misal holding a departmental meeting without his approval, claiming she overstepped her authority by issuing directives. Misal countered, asserting her right as a junior minister to convene meetings, though she denied giving orders.

Speaking in Nagpur, Fadnavis clarified that cabinet ministers hold primary authority, delegating powers to junior ministers, but the latter can hold meetings. Policy decisions, however, require cabinet minister approval or ratification. He emphasized unity, stating, “Ministers and ministers of state are part of the same government.”

Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule noted that the Chief Minister’s Office would review power-sharing protocols to prevent such clashes, as Misal had sought clarification on her role.
