Fadnavis Tells BJP Leaders to Avoid Attacking Mahayuti Allies After Civic Poll Wins
CM urges restraint after Mahayuti's local poll sweep.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed senior BJP leaders to refrain from launching aggressive verbal attacks on alliance partners Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar's NCP, emphasising the need for coalition harmony following the Mahayuti's dominant performance in the recent municipal council and nagar panchayat elections across the state.
In a high-level core team meeting held at his official residence shortly after the results were declared, Fadnavis reviewed the BJP's unprecedented success while candidly acknowledging setbacks in certain municipal councils and nagar panchayats, even in constituencies represented by BJP legislators, underscoring the imperative for the party to strengthen its organisational machinery and performance in future civic body contests.
Sources revealed that the Chief Minister issued a pointed advisory urging party functionaries to exercise utmost restraint during campaigning, particularly in scenarios where seat-sharing agreements fail to materialise, to prevent unnecessary friction that could undermine the unity of the ruling Mahayuti alliance comprising the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP.

The alliance secured a resounding victory by capturing 207 presidential posts out of 288, decisively limiting the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi—consisting of Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP (SP)—to a mere 44, with the BJP claiming 117 posts, Shinde's Sena 53, and Ajit Pawar's NCP 37, amid pre-poll tensions marked by bitter exchanges and multiple friendly contests among the partners.
Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena emerged as a standout performer with a superior strike rate compared to the BJP, expanding its influence far beyond traditional strongholds in Thane and Konkan into rural and semi-urban regions, delivering a robust response to critics and bolstering Shinde's negotiating position ahead of the crucial Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections, while Fadnavis described the local body triumph as merely a trailer for greater successes to come.
