Fadnavis Credits PM Modi Govt for Peace, Development and Protecting Assam’s Identity

Fadnavis credits Modi govt for peace, development, and protecting Assam.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday credited the Narendra Modi government with restoring peace in Assam and averting external attempts to destabilize the state. Speaking at poll rallies in support of BJP candidates in Dibrugarh and Jorhat, Fadnavis claimed that militancy in the region has ended and that 92 per cent of commitments made in peace agreements with various groups have already been implemented.

Addressing supporters, Fadnavis alleged that India’s neighbours had once sought to exploit unrest in Assam to “break up” the state, but their plans were thwarted under the Modi government. “Due to the unrest in the state earlier, neighbouring countries thought they would break Assam someday. But their dreams were shattered by Modi ji, and Assam is progressing fast today,” he said. He highlighted the role of peace accords in bringing militant groups back into the mainstream.

Fadnavis also praised the BJP-led Assam government for development initiatives, claiming that it has safeguarded the state’s identity, culture, and traditions while advancing infrastructure projects. Citing the Tata Group’s semiconductor unit at Jagiroad, he described it as a “gift of Modi ji” that will position Assam on the global map. He emphasized that nations capable of manufacturing semiconductors are poised to lead globally, placing India among a select group.

The Maharashtra chief minister sharply criticized the Congress party, accusing it of neglecting Assam and the northeastern region through a “step-motherly attitude” that hindered development and allowed unrest to persist. He alleged that previous Congress governments failed to curb infiltration, leading to demographic shifts, and accused the party of an “anti-national stance” during the recent West Asia crisis.

Fadnavis further highlighted welfare measures and women’s empowerment initiatives under the Modi government, stating that the 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies from 2029 would usher in “Mahila raaj.” He asserted that the BJP’s policies balance both development and protection of Assam’s historical and cultural identity.

The rallies also featured pointed attacks on opposition leaders. Fadnavis singled out Congress state president Gaurav Gogoi, asserting that he would have no role in Assam if the BJP returned to power. The Maharashtra chief minister’s speeches reinforced the party’s message ahead of the upcoming state elections, combining promises of continued development with nationalistic appeals.
