Eight Congress MPs Suspended from Lok Sabha for Disrupting House

Eight Congress MPs suspended from Lok Sabha for the rest of the Budget Session over disruption of proceedings.

Eight opposition Members of Parliament from the Congress party were suspended from the Lok Sabha on Tuesday for the remainder of the Budget Session for allegedly disrupting proceedings and throwing papers towards the Chair. The suspended MPs include Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, Manickam Tagore, Gurjeet Singh Aujla, Hibi Eden, C. Kiran Kumar Reddy, Prashant Yadaorao Padole, S. Venkatesh, and Dean Kuriakose.

The suspension came amid intense sloganeering and protests from the opposition benches, which led to repeated interruptions and forced adjournments during the day’s session. The MPs reportedly raised multiple issues, but their actions were deemed to have violated parliamentary norms, prompting decisive action from the Chair.

Dilip Saikia, presiding over the House at the time, emphasised that while opposition members have the right to raise concerns, continuous disruption is unacceptable. “The House belongs to everyone, and while discussion is vital, bringing proceedings to a standstill undermines parliamentary traditions,” he remarked.

The motion to suspend the MPs was passed following procedural debates, and the Lok Sabha was subsequently adjourned for the day. The decision reflects the Chair’s efforts to maintain decorum while balancing the rights of opposition parties to voice grievances.

Political analysts noted that the suspension comes amid heightened tensions over key legislative and financial matters being debated during the Budget Session. The move is likely to trigger further exchanges between the ruling and opposition parties in the coming days.

The suspension underscores the challenges of maintaining parliamentary discipline during high-stakes sessions and highlights ongoing concerns over confrontational politics disrupting legislative work. Observers expect the issue to remain a point of contention throughout the remainder of the Budget Session.
