ED Proceeds With Expanded CMRL Probe Following Kerala High Court Verdict

The Kerala CPI(M) finds itself at a politically sensitive juncture as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) prepares to intensify its investigation into the CMRL–Exalogic financial transaction case, adding fresh pressure on former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the party’s state leadership. The development comes at a time when the party is already grappling with internal dissent and the aftermath of recent electoral setbacks.
The latest boost to the ED’s probe follows a Kerala High Cou vei hat dismissed CMRL’s challenge against the ongoing investigation, effectively providing the agency with renewed legal backing to proceed further. With this judicial clarity, the ED is expected to expand its scrutiny into the alleged financial dealings linked to the case.
According to officials and reports, the investigation could involve further questioning of individuals connected to the matter, including potential examination of financial records, bank accounts and alleged foreign transactions. The agency has already frozen approximately 242 bank accounts linked to the case, involving funds estimated at around ₹18 crore, while the overall suspected irregularities are said to be worth nearly ₹132 crore.
