DU Colleges To Receive RFID Libraries, Smart Classrooms And New Academic Centres Under State Plan

Education Minister Ashish Sood announced the upgrades at an event held at Maharaja Agrasen College.

Delhi University's government-funded colleges are set to undergo a major technological and academic upgrade, with plans for smart classrooms, digitised libraries, and new academic centres. Education Minister Ashish Sood announced the initiative on Thursday during an event at Maharaja Agrasen College, highlighting the government’s commitment to modernising higher education infrastructure across the city’s university campuses.

The upgrades include the installation of smart classrooms designed to facilitate digital and interactive learning. These classrooms will integrate modern teaching tools such as multimedia projectors, interactive screens, and digital learning platforms to enhance classroom engagement. Officials said the initiative aims to prepare students for technology-driven education environments while supporting faculty with advanced teaching resources.

A key component of the initiative is the deployment of an RFID-enabled library management system across participating colleges. The system will automate book tracking and issue-return processes, streamlining library operations and improving access to academic resources. Digitised libraries are expected to enhance research efficiency and reduce administrative delays in managing library inventories.

In addition to technological enhancements, the plan includes the creation of a Student Facility Centre and a Multimedia Seminar Hall, providing students with modern spaces for learning, discussions, and workshops. A foundation stone was also laid for an Indian knowledge tradition centre, which will focus on promoting research and scholarship in India’s cultural and intellectual heritage.

The announcements come amid ongoing concerns over financial and administrative challenges faced by Delhi University’s government-funded colleges. Principals from 12 such colleges attended the event, highlighting past delays in grants and the importance of assured funding for smooth operations. The government emphasised that the new measures would address these challenges and ensure continuity in academic and infrastructural development.

Education officials stated that the upgrades are part of a broader push to modernise Delhi University’s campuses and align them with global standards of higher education. By combining technology, infrastructure, and academic initiatives, the plan seeks to create an enhanced learning environment that benefits both students and faculty while supporting the long-term growth of the university system.
