DMK's Shocking Thanjavur Shakeup: Three-Time MLA Anbalagan Replaces Rajya Sabha Veteran!

Kumbakonam MLA Sakkottai G Anbalagan takes charge as Thanjavur North district in-charge, ousting veteran S Kalyanasundaram amid controversy.

In a dramatic move, the DMK leadership has replaced Rajya Sabha member S Kalyanasundaram with three-time MLA Sakkottai G Anbalagan as the Thanjavur North district in-charge. Anbalagan, a seasoned politician elected consecutively since 2011, steps into the role following mounting allegations against Kalyanasundaram’s son, S K Muthuselvam, the Kumbakonam union secretary.

Party insiders reveal that Muthuselvam’s alleged interference in local government activities sparked discontent among DMK functionaries. Additionally, complaints about the father-son duo’s approach toward party workers fueled the leadership’s decision to act. Sources also point to Kalyanasundaram’s age—85—as a factor, with the party eyeing younger leadership to energize fieldwork ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.

A local DMK functionary emphasized Anbalagan’s credentials, noting his loyalty to the late DMK stalwart Ko Si Mani, whose legacy transformed Thanjavur North into a party stronghold transcending caste divides. “Anbalagan’s ability to connect with all communities makes him the right choice,” the functionary said, downplaying concerns about Kalyanasundaram’s dominant caste background.
