DMK to Retain Power in Tamil Nadu; TVK Outperforms AIADMK With 63 Seats: Exit Poll

DMK to retain Tamil Nadu with 125 seats; Vijay's TVK outperforms AIADMK's debut.

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is projected to secure a second consecutive term in Tamil Nadu, according to the Today’s Chanakya exit poll released after the State Assembly election. The survey indicates a strong position for the DMK-led alliance, while also pointing to a reshaping of the state’s political competition with the rise of new and emerging players.

As per the projection, the DMK-led coalition, which also includes the Congress, is expected to win around 125 seats in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, with a margin of error of 11 seats. The majority mark in the state is 118 seats, meaning the alliance is comfortably placed above the required threshold to form the government for a second straight term if the predictions hold true.

A major talking point of the exit poll is the performance of actor-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), which is contesting its first major state election. The survey estimates that TVK could secure around 63 seats, with a similar margin of error, suggesting a strong debut and positioning the party as a serious new contender in Tamil Nadu politics. The projection also suggests that TVK may outperform the AIADMK in seat share.

The AIADMK, which has renewed its alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), is projected to face a comparatively weaker outcome. Today’s Chanakya estimates that the alliance could win around 45 seats, also with a margin of 11 seats. This places it behind both the DMK-led alliance and TVK in the projected results, indicating a significant setback for the former ruling party in its attempt to regain power.

In terms of vote share, the DMK-led alliance is projected to secure around 39%, while TVK is estimated at 30%, and the AIADMK-led alliance at 27%, each with a 3% margin of error. While exit polls are not final results, the data suggests a politically evolving landscape in Tamil Nadu, where the DMK maintains its dominance, TVK emerges as a strong new force, and AIADMK continues to face electoral challenges despite its alliance with the BJP.
