DK Shivakumar Assures Unity with Siddaramaiah, Focuses on 2028 Karnataka Poll Strategy
Karnataka Congress leaders Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah affirm unity amid leadership speculations.
Addressing reporters in Bengaluru, Shivakumar clarified that there is no difference of opinion between him and Siddaramaiah. Acknowledging his role as Karnataka Congress chief, he stated that he is fully aware of his "limits" and the party’s primary focus is on formulating a winning strategy for the 2028 Assembly elections. Shivakumar said, “The CM and I will work out a strategy together. We want to hold an all-party meeting on various issues and serve the aspirations of Karnataka’s people.”
The statement follows an hour-long breakfast meeting between the two leaders aimed at projecting harmony amid speculation of a leadership tussle within the party. Despite this effort to display unity, opposition parties dismissed the meeting as mere political theater meant to conceal ongoing internal differences. Tensions had escalated since Siddaramaiah's government completed its half-term on November 20, fueling rumors of a shake-up.
Siddaramaiah has reaffirmed his commitment to serve his full five-year term and implement key promises, including the party’s flagship five guarantee schemes. Meanwhile, Shivakumar has called for a leadership change, referencing a "secret agreement" among senior Congress leaders that he should assume the chief ministership halfway through the tenure. Both leaders have expressed their readiness to abide by the party high command’s forthcoming decision.

With Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge set to play a decisive role in resolving the dispute, the internal dynamics remain tense as loyalists from both camps lobby for their preferred candidate. The party’s efforts to reconcile these differences while maintaining public confidence are expected to continue as Karnataka gears up for future electoral battles.
