DK Shivakumar Acknowledges Gandhi Family’s Role Ahead of Karnataka CM Oath

Karnataka Chief Minister-designate DK Shivakumar on Tuesday expressed gratitude to the Gandhi family, crediting them for playing a defining role in his political journey and acknowledging their continued support ahead of his swearing-in as Chief Minister.

Shivakumar, who also serves as the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president, said the trust placed in him at various stages of his career had helped shape his growth as a public representative. He said he would continue working with sincerity and commitment to build a progressive, inclusive, and prosperous Karnataka, guided by shared values and democratic principles.

Recalling his early political journey, Shivakumar referred to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, saying that he recognised his potential even when he was a young party worker. He said Rajiv Gandhi’s encouragement gave him confidence to expand his aspirations and dedicate himself to public service. According to him, this early support laid the foundation for his long association with the Congress party.

He also highlighted the role of former Congress president Sonia Gandhi, stating that she stood by him during difficult phases of his political life. Shivakumar said she demonstrated that true leadership is not limited to moments of success but is also reflected in providing strength and support during challenging times. He added that her trust remained a source of encouragement for him.

Shivakumar further said that Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has been a constant source of guidance and inspiration. He noted Rahul Gandhi’s emphasis on democratic values, willingness to listen, and vision for an inclusive India, adding that these qualities continue to motivate leaders like him in public life.

He also praised Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, describing her as approachable and encouraging in her interactions with party workers. Shivakumar said she treats every worker with respect and reinforces the importance of connecting with people and understanding their aspirations. He concluded that the Gandhi family collectively represents different dimensions of leadership, including empathy, conviction, and service, which have significantly influenced his political journey.
