Dharmendra Pradhan Responds To Congress MP's 'It Happens' Remark

Former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan received a warm welcome from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and National Democratic Alliance (NDA) MPs as he arrived at Parliament on Monday, days after resigning from the Union Cabinet. The Odisha MP was greeted with cheers of "Dharmendra Pradhan zindabad" as supporters surrounded him, with some draping him in a traditional shawl and presenting him with a ceremonial cap. His return to Parliament came amid continued political discussions following his resignation over the NEET paper leak controversy.

As Pradhan made his way into Parliament, Congress MP Jairam Ramesh remarked, "It happens," referring to the resignation. Responding with a smile, Pradhan replied, "Nothing happened. I am a street fighter, not an AC-room activist." The brief exchange quickly drew attention, highlighting the political sparring between the ruling BJP and the opposition. BJP MPs also noted that Pradhan had resigned without facing any personal allegations, describing the move as an example of political accountability.

Pradhan announced his resignation on Saturday, stating that he was deeply pained by recent developments surrounding the NEET paper leak. In a message posted on X, he said the country's youth remained India's greatest strength and stressed that students should not be trapped in uncertainty and confusion. The BJP has maintained that his resignation reflects accountability and commitment to safeguarding the interests of students rather than any admission of wrongdoing.

Political observers believe Pradhan could soon be assigned a significant role within the BJP organisation or be entrusted with leading the party's campaign in the upcoming Assembly elections in five states. Over the years, he has played a key role in the BJP's electoral strategy, serving as election in-charge in several states, including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Haryana, and West Bengal. His organisational skills have made him one of the party's most influential leaders.

Senior BJP leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and other party leaders, have publicly praised Pradhan's contributions to the education sector and endorsed the reforms introduced during his tenure. Party leaders also maintain that his resignation will not diminish his political influence, particularly in Odisha, where he remains one of the BJP's most prominent faces. With strong backing from the party leadership and legislators in the state, Pradhan is expected to continue playing a crucial role in the BJP's national and state-level political strategy.
