Dhankhar’s Dramatic Exit: The Rashtrapati Bhavan Secret That Shook India!

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar's sudden resignation after a mysterious Rashtrapati Bhavan visit sparks political speculation.

India’s political landscape was rocked on July 21, 2025, when Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar abruptly resigned, citing health concerns, after a mysterious late-night visit to Rashtrapati Bhavan. The sudden move, announced on X just 30 minutes after meeting President Murmu, has ignited a firestorm of speculation about what really drove the 74-year-old to step down from his role as Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman.

Dhankhar, whose term began in August 2022 and was set to end in 2027, handed his resignation to President Murmu at 9 PM on Monday, the first day of the Monsoon session of Parliament. In his letter, he stated, “To prioritise health care and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as Vice President of India, effective immediately, in accordance with Article 67(a) of the Constitution.” But the timing of his exit, coupled with an unscheduled visit to Rashtrapati Bhavan, has left many questioning the official narrative.

The Congress party hinted at “far deeper” reasons behind Dhankhar’s resignation, pointing to a controversial move that may have cost him the government’s support. Sources reveal that Dhankhar urged Opposition leaders to file an impeachment notice against Justice Yashwant Varma, a former Delhi High Court judge, in the Rajya Sabha, despite the government’s plan to handle the matter in the Lok Sabha. The judge faces removal after an undisclosed amount of money was found at his residence in March.

On Sunday, a senior Congress lawmaker drafted the impeachment notice, which was signed by 63 Opposition MPs by Monday—none from the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Dhankhar’s announcement in the Rajya Sabha, confirming the motion to form a committee for Varma’s removal, caught the NDA off guard, derailing their strategy.

The government’s silence was deafening; Prime Minister Modi’s response came over 15 hours later, at 12:13 PM on Tuesday, while Rashtrapati Bhavan swiftly accepted the resignation, gazetted at 1:11 PM. Adding to the intrigue, the ruling alliance offered no praise for Dhankhar, a stark contrast to the Opposition’s surprising goodwill, despite their earlier impeachment attempt against him for alleged biases.

As Delhi buzzes with theories, one question lingers: was Dhankhar’s exit truly about health, or did his bold political maneuver force his hand? The secret of that Rashtrapati Bhavan visit may hold the key to this political bombshell.
