Development Neglected in Karnataka Amid Siddaramaiah-Shivakumar Power Struggle, BJP Claims
BJP slams Siddaramaiah-Shivakumar rift for neglecting Karnataka's development and jobs.
The Karnataka BJP on Friday claimed that the state’s development has been severely neglected due to an ongoing power struggle between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar. Addressing a press conference after visiting the Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation (KSIC) unit in Channapatna as part of the Save Mysuru Silk campaign, Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka alleged that internal disagreements between the two leaders are creating confusion and stalling governance.
“Due to this internal tug-of-war, development has been completely neglected. The power struggle between the two has created confusion in the state,” Ashoka said. He added that Shivakumar has claimed a power-sharing pact with Siddaramaiah, while the Chief Minister has responded by asserting that he is being targeted because he belongs to a backward class.
Ashoka criticised the Congress government for its handling of election promises and welfare schemes. “People are actually enjoying this comedy. The November revolution has begun, and the Congress is in total disarray. When the party announced guarantee schemes during elections, they had no idea about their consequences,” he said. He cited the Yuva Nidhi scheme, which has been halted, and ongoing protests by transport employees under the Shakti scheme as examples of mismanagement.

On the issue of government job appointments, Ashoka said, “Though we fought for 2.84 lakh posts, the government has issued orders for only 56,000 posts. They must clarify when the remaining appointments will be issued.” He accused the state administration of misleading students and delaying recruitment processes.
The BJP leader also criticised the handling of sports infrastructure projects, particularly the construction of a cricket stadium. “The government has identified wasteland to build party offices in every taluk yet claims there is no land for a stadium. The stadium is being built on factory land purely out of greed for commissions and to shut down KSIC,” Ashoka alleged.
During his visit to KSIC, Ashoka highlighted the historical and cultural significance of the state-owned silk industry. He said the Channapatna factory employs around 400 workers and produces 1,400 sarees a month, which sell out in a single day. “This silk, which has received a GI tag, is a matter of pride for Mysore and Chamarajanagar. Maharaja Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar established this unit to benefit local silk farmers,” he added, stressing the importance of preserving the industry.
