Delhi Speaker Upholds Atishi Video as Original Amid Punjab Doctored Claim
Conflicting forensics fuel BJP-AAP feud over Atishi's assembly clip allegedly linking dogs and gurus disrespectfully.
A political and legal confrontation has emerged between BJP-ruled Delhi and AAP-ruled Punjab over a video clip allegedly showing Aam Aadmi Party leader Atishi making remarks deemed disrespectful to Sikh gurus. The dispute centers on whether Atishi uttered the word “guru” during recent Delhi Assembly proceedings, a claim that has triggered forensic examinations and cross-state political sparring.
Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta on Saturday said a forensic report had confirmed the authenticity of the video clip, asserting that it was original and free from tampering. Gupta, a senior BJP leader, maintained that the report proved Atishi had indeed made the remarks in question, calling the video evidence genuine and reliable.
The AAP, however, rejected this conclusion. Delhi AAP president Saurabh Bharadwaj argued that while the forensic test may have verified the originality of the clip, it failed to answer the central issue—whether Atishi actually uttered the word “guru.” He accused the BJP of attempting to provoke religious discord and demanded action against BJP leaders involved in circulating the clip.

The controversy has also taken a legal turn in Punjab. On Thursday, the additional chief judicial magistrate in Jalandhar ordered the immediate removal and blocking of what was described as a “doctored” version of the video featuring Atishi. Punjab Police, following a separate forensic examination, claimed the clip shared on social media had been manipulated, prompting the registration of an FIR in the state.
This development led AAP leaders to demand accountability from the Delhi Assembly Speaker. Chief Whip Sanjiv Jha called for action against BJP minister Kapil Mishra, alleging a breach of privilege for sharing the allegedly doctored video online. The AAP has insisted that the issue is not merely political but concerns the misuse of digital content to inflame religious sentiments.
As forensic claims from Delhi and Punjab present contrasting conclusions, the episode has intensified tensions between the two governments. The matter now spans political debate, judicial scrutiny, and police investigation, with both sides standing firm on their interpretations while the controversy over the video continues unresolved.
