Delhi CM Leads 'Kude Se Azadi' Cleanliness Drive
Gupta inspires residents to join sanitation push
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta rolled up her sleeves on Tuesday, diving into the 'Kude Se Azadi' cleanliness campaign in Sanjay Basti, Timarpur, as she called on residents to take collective ownership of the city’s sanitation. Launched on August 1, the month-long initiative aims to revolutionize waste management and foster community participation across the national capital.
Joined by local MLA Surya Prakash Khatri, Gupta engaged with residents, emphasizing the power of collective action. “I saw a video today of a young boy cleaning a bus stand. If every Delhiite takes responsibility for our city’s cleanliness, we can make Delhi shine,” she said, praising grassroots efforts. The campaign has mobilized resident welfare associations, NGOs, and religious organizations, with public representatives leading efforts in their constituencies.
Gupta also inspected JJ Colony and DDA flats in the area, addressing residents’ concerns about infrastructure. She issued directives to civic departments for timely development work, underscoring her commitment to improving living conditions. “Cleanliness and development go hand in hand,” she noted.

The 'Kude Se Azadi' campaign, meaning 'Freedom from Garbage,' has gained traction, with similar drives in cities like Mumbai and Bengaluru inspiring Delhi’s model. Residents have lauded Gupta’s hands-on approach, though some expressed concerns about inconsistent waste collection in slum areas, urging sustained efforts beyond the campaign’s duration.
As Delhi battles its waste management challenges—generating over 10,000 tons of garbage daily—the initiative has sparked hope. With Gupta leading by example, the campaign aims to transform Delhi’s streets and inspire a cleaner, greener capital.
