DDA Launches Delhi Property Map To Reveal Residential And Commercial Land Use Status
DDA Map Helps Delhi Owners Check Property Land Use
Delhi residents can now check the designated land use of an area, location or individual property online through a new GIS-based interactive map launched by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA). The digital Land Use Plan, linked to the Master Plan for Delhi-2047 (MPD-2047), allows users to zoom into locations and identify the land-use category assigned to a particular plot. The DDA says the initiative is intended to make basic planning information more accessible and reduce the need for residents to visit civic offices or depend on third parties for routine land-use queries. The platform is available through the DDA website under the MPD-2047 section.
The initiative was rolled out on the directions of Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu. According to DDA officials, the interactive GIS platform is designed to provide location-specific planning information directly to citizens and professionals. Users can search for a particular area, location or property and progressively zoom into the map to view its designated land-use category. Unlike conventional maps prepared at a fixed scale, the GIS system provides a more detailed spatial view as users move closer to individual locations. This makes it possible to examine land-use information at a much more granular level than a standard city map.
The Land Use Plan covers nine major categories: Residential, Commercial, Industrial, Recreation, Transport, Utility, Government, Public and Semi-Public Facilities, and Agriculture and Water Body. Each category is represented through a separate colour code, allowing users to identify the designated use of an area visually. The land-use designation provides planning information about how a particular area is classified under the relevant master-plan framework. DDA’s planning documents also distinguish between land-use categories and the more specific use zones within them. The authority has previously clarified that a land-use designation in a zonal plan does not, by itself, automatically give a property owner the right to use the land for that designated purpose.

The new platform includes several additional planning layers beyond the basic land-use map. These include Land Pooling Areas and Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Zones, along with layers covering the Dwarka Sub-City, Rohini Project Layout, PM-UDAY Colonies and DDA parks. The MPD-2047 layer displays proposed land-use information across different parts of Delhi, while separate layers allow users to identify areas associated with specific planning frameworks. The platform also provides measurement tools that can be used to calculate distances and dimensions, such as the length or width of roads and plots. Drawing and sketching tools are available as well, allowing users to mark locations or areas for preliminary analysis and personal reference.
DDA officials said the GIS-based system can be updated as new data becomes available, providing a more flexible alternative to static maps. The authority expects the platform to be useful not only to residents but also to architects, urban planners, developers, government agencies and other professionals who require spatial information for preliminary planning or development-related assessments. The availability of location-specific information online could also reduce routine physical visits to government offices and make planning data easier to access. DDA has said the broader approach is intended to support greater transparency and coordination in urban planning.
The GIS initiative is also positioned within wider efforts to integrate spatial information across government agencies. DDA officials said the framework could support coordination and interoperability of datasets from different sectors, with the approach aligned with national initiatives such as the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) and the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan. For property owners and residents, the immediate use of the platform is to check the designated land-use category of a location without relying on informal sources. However, the map should be treated as planning information rather than, by itself, proof of permission for a particular activity on a property. The official DDA website currently lists both the MPD-2047 Land Use Plan and the GIS-based MPD-2047 Land Use Plan among its planning resources.
