Datia Bypoll: CM Mohan Yadav And Narottam Mishra Support BJP Candidate
BJP leaders back nominee ahead of Datia bypoll.
The Datia Assembly by-election campaign gained momentum on Monday as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Ashutosh Tiwari and Congress nominee Ghanshyam Singh filed their nomination papers, with both parties organising separate roadshows to demonstrate their political strength ahead of the July 30 polling. Senior leaders from both parties joined their respective candidates during the nomination process.
Ashutosh Tiwari submitted his nomination in the presence of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, BJP state president Hemant Khandelwal, former Home Minister Narottam Mishra, and other senior party leaders. The presence of Mishra was seen as significant after sections of BJP workers had expressed dissatisfaction over his exclusion from the electoral contest.
Addressing BJP workers after filing his nomination, Tiwari sought support from party members and voters of Datia. He acknowledged Narottam Mishra’s influence on his political career and described him as a senior figure who had guided him. Tiwari appealed to BJP workers to work together to ensure victory for the party in the by-election.

Congress candidate Ghanshyam Singh filed his nomination in the presence of former Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh, Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee president Jitu Patwari, Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar, former MLA Rajendra Bharti, and Samajwadi Party state president Manoj Yadav. Singh expressed confidence in winning the seat and claimed that dissatisfaction among some BJP workers could benefit the Congress.
The BJP also announced its proposed list of star campaigners for the Datia by-election, including Narottam Mishra along with Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Union Minister Virendra Kumar Khatik, and several other senior leaders. Mishra’s inclusion in the campaign list is considered important amid earlier concerns over internal reactions to the ticket decision.
The Datia by-election was necessitated after Congress MLA Rajendra Bharti was disqualified under provisions of the Representation of the People Act. The deadline for filing nominations ended on July 13, while scrutiny of papers will take place on July 14. Candidates can withdraw nominations until July 16, with voting scheduled for July 30 and counting of votes set for August 3.
