Dadar Sees Tree Collapse During Mumbai Rains, No Casualties Reported

Tree collapse in Dadar causes no injuries during rains.

A major tragedy was narrowly averted in Mumbai’s Dadar area after a large tree collapsed onto the roof of the Minatai Flower Market during the early hours of Saturday amid heavy rainfall. The incident, which occurred around 2:30 am, caused significant damage to the market’s shed structure but did not result in any injuries or casualties as the premises were closed at the time.

According to initial reports, the tree suddenly uprooted and fell onto the market complex, crashing onto the roof with considerable force. The impact severely damaged parts of the structure, prompting immediate safety concerns in the surrounding area. Since the incident took place during non-operational hours, authorities confirmed that no traders or workers were present at the site.

As a precautionary measure, electricity supply to the affected market area was immediately disconnected to prevent any risk of electrocution or further accidents. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) teams and emergency response workers were quickly deployed to the location to begin cutting and removing the fallen tree and clearing debris from the site.

Officials said that restoration and safety assessment work is currently underway, with teams inspecting the structural integrity of the damaged shed. CCTV footage from the market captured the moment the tree collapsed, showing the force of the impact as it struck the rooftop structure. Authorities are also evaluating whether nearby trees pose any additional risk given the prevailing weather conditions.

The incident comes amid a spell of intense monsoon activity in the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds reaching up to 60 kmph in isolated areas. Several parts of the city have already recorded over 100 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours, leading to waterlogging in multiple localities.

Despite the severe weather conditions, civic officials have stated that public transport services continue to operate normally, though residents have been advised to exercise caution. The BMC is closely monitoring vulnerable zones as rainfall intensity remains high across Mumbai and suburban regions.
