C.S. Channi Holds Key Meet With Punjab Leaders Amid Organisational Changes
Leadership discusses strategy amid organisational restructuring.
Senior Congress leader and former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi held a key meeting with party leaders in Morinda on Friday, hours after the Congress high command announced a new organisational team for the state. The gathering assumed political significance as it came amid a major reshuffle within the Punjab Congress and followed Channi's appointment as Chairperson of the party's Campaign Committee. The meeting has also drawn attention because of ongoing speculation over the party's leadership structure in the state.
According to party sources, the meeting was attended by several senior Congress leaders, former ministers, sitting legislators, former Members of Parliament and former MLAs. Among those present were former Deputy Chief Minister OP Soni; former ministers Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria, Gurpreet Singh Kangar, Bharat Bhushan Ashu, Rana Gurjeet Singh and Gurkirat Singh Kotli. Former MP Mohammad Sadiq also participated in the discussions, along with several former legislators from different parts of Punjab.
The meeting also witnessed the presence of former MLAs Darshan Singh Brar, Lakhvir Singh Lakha, Madan Lal Jalalpur, Angad Singh Saini, Harminder Singh Gill, Kushaldeep Singh "Kikki" Dhillon, Tarsem Singh, Devinder Ghubaya, Joginder Pal and Inderbir Singh Bolaria. Former Punjab Youth Congress president Barinder Singh Dhillon was also among the attendees. In addition, Balkaur Singh, father of late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala and a figure considered close to Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, was present at the gathering, adding further political interest to the meeting.

Although the Congress party has not officially disclosed the agenda, the timing of the meeting has fuelled speculation about internal discussions on organisational restructuring and future political strategy. Channi's recent elevation as Campaign Committee Chairperson comes amid reports that he has also been seeking the post of Punjab Congress president, making the gathering particularly noteworthy in the context of the party's evolving leadership dynamics ahead of future electoral challenges.
Political observers believe the meeting reflects the Congress leadership's efforts to strengthen coordination among senior leaders following the organisational changes announced by the high command. With several influential leaders participating, the discussions are expected to play an important role in shaping the party's strategy, improving organisational unity and preparing the Punjab Congress for upcoming political battles in the state.
