Controversy in Kerala: LDF Campaign Poster Found on Oommen Chandy’s Tomb
Political tensions flare in Kerala after LDF campaign poster appears on Oommen Chandy’s tomb.
A political stir erupted in Kerala after a poster from the LDF election campaign was discovered pasted on the tomb of former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. The poster was reportedly linked to a march led by Kerala Congress (M) chairman Jose K Mani, an LDF ally, prompting sharp reactions from rival political parties.
District Congress Committee (DCC) president Nattakam Suresh shared the poster on Facebook and demanded action against the Kerala Congress, calling the incident a disrespectful act against Chandy’s legacy. Jose K Mani expressed regret over the incident, stating it insulted the former chief minister.
Preliminary investigations and CCTV footage suggest the act may not have been part of an organized political conspiracy. Visuals indicate a mentally challenged youth was responsible for placing the poster at the tomb, though the individual has yet to be located by Kottayam East Police.

Both CPI(M) and Congress leaders have expressed concerns over whether the youth was influenced to carry out the act. CPM Puthuppally local committee called for a thorough investigation, while Congress raised questions about why Chandy continues to be targeted posthumously.
CPM Kottayam district secretary T.R. Raghunathan defended the party, stating it holds only respect for Chandy and accused the Congress and UDF of attempting to politicize the episode. CPI(M) Puthuppally secretary Subhash P Varghese suggested the incident was a calculated attempt to discredit the LDF campaign, citing past controversies where Youth Congress members were implicated.
Police continue to investigate the matter, reviewing CCTV footage and seeking the youth involved, while political exchanges between the rival fronts remain tense ahead of the upcoming elections.
