Congress Rejig's Bihar; Appoints 7 Key Officials for Assembly Polls

Congress Appoints Seven Key Officials for Bihar Assembly Polls

The Congress party has named seven senior leaders to key organizational roles ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections scheduled for November, aiming to bolster its campaign in a state where it has struggled to regain ground.

Leading the pack is Randeep Surjewala, appointed Chairman of the Election Management and Coordination Committee, tasked with overseeing strategy and logistics.

Mohan Prakash serves as convenor of this 14-member panel, joined by heavyweights like Tariq Anwar and Shatrughan Sinha. Pawan Khera heads the Media Coordination Committee, with Prem Chand Mishra as convenor, aiming to sharpen the party’s narrative against the ruling NDA.

Subodh Kumar and Jaeya Mishra lead the Publicity Committee as convenor and co-convenor, respectively, while Varun Chopra chairs the Legal Committee.

Brijesh Kumar Munan oversees the Public Meeting and Logistics Committee, and senior leaders Ashok Kumar and Kaukab Quadri anchor the Office Management Committee.

The move follows Congress’s lackluster 2020 performance—winning just 19 of 70 seats—and comes amid a caste census push by ally RJD to reshape Bihar’s electoral dynamics. With the NDA’s Nitish Kumar facing anti-incumbency, Congress eyes a revival, leveraging these appointments to challenge the BJP-JD(U) dominance in the 243-seat Assembly.

The exact poll dates remain pending, but preparations signal a fierce contest ahead.
