Congress Neglected Assam Youth, BJP Drives Development: Rajnath Singh
Rajnath Singh criticizes Congress for neglecting Assam youths, praises BJP for development gains.
Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday sharply criticized the Congress party at an election rally in Tezpur, alleging that it had squandered the talent and potential of Assam’s youth and urging voters not to forgive the party. Speaking in support of sitting MLA and ally AGP’s candidate Prithiraj Rava, Singh accused Congress of neglecting Assam’s development while focusing primarily on issues of illegal immigration from Bangladesh.
“The Congress has always abused the Assamese youths, their talent and capabilities. They should not be forgiven,” Singh said. He claimed that the party’s “step-motherly” treatment during its rule left Assam isolated and underdeveloped, with insurgency, poverty, and starvation dominating headlines. “Politics should not be done only for government formation; politics should be done for nation-building,” he added.
Singh highlighted the BJP government’s achievements in Assam, including peace-building efforts that saw more than 7,500 extremists lay down their arms and join the mainstream. He also credited the NDA government with providing land rights to tea garden workers and eliminating corruption, presenting these steps as key drivers of development and stability in the region.

The minister contrasted Congress’s past treatment of border villages, which were described as the “last village of India,” with the BJP’s framing of them as the “first villages,” reflecting a shift in perspective and governance priorities. He argued that Assam has become central to the development of India’s northeast and that the state’s progress contributes directly to the country’s overall growth.
Singh also linked the BJP’s governance to India’s enhanced global standing, asserting, “Earlier, India was not taken seriously on the global stage, but now everyone listens when India speaks. Only the BJP can keep India’s head high.” His remarks reinforced the party’s narrative of combining regional development with national pride ahead of the Assam polls.
The rally emphasized BJP’s focus on youth empowerment, national security, and regional development, positioning the party as a catalyst for Assam’s growth while framing Congress as an impediment to progress.
