Congress in Crisis: Surjewala Grills Karnataka Ministers Over MLA Complaints
Congress leader Randeep Surjewala meets Karnataka ministers to address MLA grievances and review performance amid internal party tensions.
In a bid to quell growing unrest within the Karnataka Congress, General Secretary and state in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala held intense one-on-one meetings with key ministers on Tuesday. The closed-door discussions focused on evaluating ministerial performance, addressing grievances, and tackling complaints raised by party MLAs about stalled development works in their constituencies.
Public Works Minister Satish Jarkiholi, one of the attendees, revealed that he briefed Surjewala on the progress of development projects under his department. “I shared details on funds allocated for public works in each constituency. Around 12 MLAs listed pending projects, and while most were addressed, a couple remain. I’ll hold a meeting to resolve them,” Jarkiholi told reporters.
Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao downplayed the significance of the meeting, stating, “Surjewala shared some feedback based on his observations. We’ll act on it, but there’s nothing major to highlight.”

Meanwhile, Minor Irrigation, Science, and Technology Minister N S Boseraju expressed optimism after his meeting, noting that Surjewala relayed positive feedback from MLAs about his work. “The general secretary discussed MLAs’ demands and reviewed my department’s functioning. Most MLAs spoke highly of me, which is encouraging,” Boseraju said. He also dismissed rumors of internal dissent, claiming, “There are no major issues in our party. One or two concerns were raised, but they’ve been addressed.”
The meetings come amid whispers of an internal power struggle within the Karnataka Congress. Despite Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s firm stance that he will complete his five-year term, speculation persists about a potential leadership change, with Deputy CM D K Shivakumar eyed as a possible successor by year-end.
Party sources reveal that several MLAs recently voiced frustration to Surjewala, alleging that some ministers have neglected their constituencies’ developmental needs. In response, Surjewala’s meetings aimed to assess ministerial accountability and relay findings to the Congress high command.
As Karnataka’s political landscape simmers with tension, Surjewala’s intervention signals the party’s attempt to restore unity and ensure progress ahead of future electoral challenges.
