Congress: Dhankhar Silent for 50 Days; Nation Awaits Him to Speak on VP Election

Congress Slams Dhankhar’s Silence, Cites Farmers & Governance; Radhakrishnan and Reddy in VP Race

The Congress party criticised former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Tuesday for maintaining what they described as an "uncharacteristic silence" for 50 days since his unexpected resignation. As the election for his successor began, the party urged him to address his earlier concerns regarding the Modi government's handling of farmers' issues and the risks of "ahankar" (arrogance) in power.

Congress general secretary in charge of communications, Jairam Ramesh, emphasised that the nation awaits Dhankhar's voice on these matters. Dhankhar's resignation in July 2025 was linked to his expressions of discontent over agricultural policies and governance, though details remain limited to official statements.

The vice presidential election features a direct contest between the NDA's candidate, C. P. Radhakrishnan, and the Opposition's B. Sudershan Reddy, with the BJP-led alliance holding a numerical advantage in Parliament. Both alliances held strategy meetings on Monday, briefing their MPs on the voting process and conducting mock polls to ensure accurate participation.

Under the secret ballot system, MPs are not bound by party whips, allowing for independent voting. This election underscores the ongoing political dynamics in India, with the Opposition seeking to rally support against the ruling coalition.
