Congress Cancels Rahul Gandhi’s Bengal Poll Visit, Blames Trinamool For Disruptions
Congress cancels Rahul Gandhi’s Bengal visit, citing Trinamool obstruction.
The Indian National Congress on Wednesday cancelled a scheduled election campaign visit by Rahul Gandhi to West Bengal, blaming the ruling All India Trinamool Congress for what it described as a lack of coordination and cooperation.
Party leaders said the decision was taken after local arrangements for the visit could not be finalised, alleging that the Trinamool Congress did not extend the necessary support required for organising the programme. The Congress claimed that logistical hurdles, including permissions and venue-related issues, made it difficult to proceed with the planned campaign.
Sources within the party indicated that Rahul Gandhi was expected to address public meetings and interact with party workers as part of efforts to strengthen the Congress’s presence in the state. The visit was seen as a key component of the party’s outreach strategy ahead of the ongoing electoral exercise in West Bengal.

The Trinamool Congress has not immediately responded in detail to the allegations. However, political observers noted that ties between the two parties have remained strained in the state despite being part of a broader opposition bloc at the national level. Differences over seat-sharing and local political dynamics have often led to friction between the allies.
Congress leaders maintained that the cancellation would not affect the party’s campaign momentum, adding that alternative programmes and strategies are being worked out to engage voters in the state. They reiterated their commitment to strengthening grassroots outreach and mobilising support despite the setback.
The development underscores the continuing challenges within opposition coordination in key electoral states, where regional equations often override national-level alliances. With campaigning intensifying, such disagreements are likely to influence both messaging and on-ground strategies as parties vie for political space in West Bengal.
