Congress Calls Red Fort Blast a Major Security Failure, Demands Accountability
Security failure near Red Fort sparks political storm.
Congress leader KC Venugopal on Wednesday demanded the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, citing a “grave security lapse” in the November 10 car bomb attack near Red Fort that killed 13 and injured over 20. He invoked the 2008 Mumbai attacks, when the UPA Home Minister quit on moral grounds, and accused the government of downplaying terror threats despite the blast occurring mere kilometers from Shah’s office. Venugopal called for a transparent national inquiry to expose the “real reasons” behind the breach.
The National Investigation Agency has formed a high-level team of senior officers to probe the Jaish-e-Mohammed module behind the Hyundai i20 explosion at Subhash Marg traffic signal around 7 pm Monday. Operating under SP-rank supervision, the unit is tracing explosives procurement, digital footprints, and cross-border handlers, with the attack now classified as a fidayeen strike executed by radicalized professionals.
In its Wednesday meeting, the Union Cabinet observed two minutes of silence for the victims, adopted a resolution condemning the “dastardly and cowardly” act, and pledged zero tolerance for terrorism. Chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it directed the NIA to pursue the case with utmost urgency to ensure perpetrators and collaborators face swift justice.

As political pressure mounts and the death toll remains under review, the Red Fort area stays cordoned, metro services disrupted, and security tightened nationwide. The clash between opposition demands for accountability and the government’s resolve to dismantle the terror network sets the stage for a heated parliamentary showdown.
