Congress Calls Bomb Blast Outside Manipur Leader's House an "Attack On Democracy"

The Opposition Congress in Manipur has condemned the bomb blast outside the residence of its legislature party leader Keisham Meghachandra Singh, describing the incident as an “attack on democracy”. The explosion occurred near the gate of Mr. Singh’s residence at Yairipok Bishnunaha in Thoubal district. The party said political differences in a democracy should be addressed through dialogue and peaceful negotiations rather than violence.

Senior Congress spokesperson Hareshwar Goswami criticised the attack and said the blast represented a serious threat to democratic principles. He said disagreements and differences of opinion were a normal part of democratic politics but should be resolved through discussion. The Congress leader appealed for differences to be handled peacefully, stressing that violence should not be used as a means of settling political or ideological disputes.

Keisham Meghachandra Singh is the president of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee and represents Wangkhem in the State Assembly. Security personnel were seen at his residence following the explosion near the entrance. The incident has raised concerns over the security of a senior political leader and comes against the backdrop of continuing political and social tensions in the northeastern State.

The Congress has sought attention to the nature of the attack and its implications for political activity in Manipur.
