CM Yogi Adityanath Cuts Minister Convoys by 50%, Orders Work-From-Home in UP
The UP Chief Minister implements austerity measures, including convoy cuts and work-from-home directives.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered a 50 per cent reduction in ministerial convoys, including his own, and called for work-from-home arrangements in government and private workplaces amid concerns arising from the ongoing West Asia crisis. The directives were issued on Tuesday following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for austerity measures and resource conservation during the period of geopolitical uncertainty.
During a late-evening review meeting with senior government officials, Adityanath instructed departments to immediately remove unnecessary vehicles from official convoys and reduce the size of ministerial fleets. He also recommended that offices with large workforces adopt work-from-home policies for at least two days a week to reduce fuel consumption and operational costs. The meeting was attended by the chief secretary, director general of police, additional chief secretaries, and principal secretaries from various departments.
The chief minister further directed government offices to conduct meetings, seminars, conferences, and workshops through virtual platforms wherever possible. Officials were also asked to encourage energy-saving and cost-cutting practices across departments. At the district and local levels, administrative authorities were instructed to coordinate with hotel associations, restaurants, dhabas, sweet shops, and street food vendors to promote low-oil food items as part of broader conservation efforts linked to the Centre’s appeal.

The measures come amid growing national concern over the economic and energy-related impact of instability in West Asia, a region crucial to global oil supplies. Prime Minister Modi had recently urged citizens and state governments to adopt austerity initiatives, reduce fuel consumption, prioritise domestic products, and avoid unnecessary expenditure. Uttar Pradesh is among the first states to formally announce a structured response to the appeal, with the Adityanath government positioning the steps as both precautionary and symbolic of administrative discipline during uncertain global conditions.
