CM Siddaramaiah To Launch Karnataka Public Schools Project In Shivamogga On June 1
Karnataka launches public schools project to expand education access.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced that the Karnataka Public Schools (KPS) project will be formally launched in Shivamogga on June 1, marking a major step in the state government’s plan to expand and modernise school education infrastructure across Karnataka.
The announcement came after the Chief Minister chaired a high-level review meeting at his official residence on Wednesday with officials from the School Education and Literacy Department. During the meeting, he directed authorities to accelerate the rollout of the KPS model statewide and ensure timely implementation of associated infrastructure and staffing plans.
According to officials, each Karnataka Public School will be designed to accommodate around 1,200 students and offer a continuous learning system from LKG to Pre-University (Class 11 and 12). The schools will operate in both Kannada and English mediums within a single campus structure, aiming to provide integrated and accessible education for students across urban and rural regions.

Siddaramaiah also instructed departments to complete the establishment of 800 proposed Karnataka Public Schools within the next two years and initiate tender processes without delay during the current academic cycle. He further directed officials to examine the feasibility of introducing school bus facilities to improve accessibility for students, particularly in rural areas.
In addition to infrastructure expansion, the Chief Minister asked the department to submit a proposal to the Finance Department for recruiting 15,000 teachers, highlighting the need to strengthen academic delivery as the system scales up. The government also discussed supplementary measures such as distributing free notebooks along with textbooks to reduce educational costs for families.
The meeting also reviewed academic performance across the state, with officials reporting significant improvements in SSLC and II PUC examination results. The SSLC pass percentage rose to 94.10 per cent, while II PUC results reached 86.48 per cent. The number of schools achieving a 100 per cent pass rate also increased sharply, alongside notable gains among SC, ST, and backward class students. Officials attributed the improvements to targeted interventions, including teacher training, preparatory examinations, and focused academic monitoring across districts.
