CM Rangasamy Agrees to Compromise, Welcomes New Party Into NDA Fold to Strengthen Alliance

AINRC secured 16 seats, while BJP's 14 will be shared with AIADMK and the newly included LJK.

Seat-sharing within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Puducherry has been finalised, with the All India NR Congress (AINRC) securing 16 out of the 30 Assembly seats. The agreement was reached after discussions between party leaders, with Chief Minister N Rangasamy agreeing to a compromise formula. The move brings clarity to the alliance structure ahead of the elections. Leaders expressed confidence in the arrangement. The alliance aims to present a united front.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been allocated 14 seats, which it will further distribute among its allies. These include the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and the newly formed Lakshya Jananayaga Katchi (LJK). The inclusion of LJK came after advice from Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Rangasamy said this step would strengthen the alliance. The arrangement reflects a broader coalition strategy.

Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya confirmed that Rangasamy will continue to lead the NDA in Puducherry. He expressed confidence that the alliance would return to power under Rangasamy’s leadership. Leaders highlighted the importance of coordination among alliance partners. The decision aims to ensure stability within the coalition. Preparations for the elections are underway.

The alliance has also worked out a common action plan for the polls. At the same time, individual parties will retain their own programmes and agendas. This approach allows flexibility while maintaining unity. Leaders believe this balance will help address diverse voter concerns. The strategy is designed to maximise electoral impact. Campaign efforts are expected to intensify.

Rangasamy’s demand for statehood for Puducherry was also discussed during the talks. However, it was described as the individual position of the AINRC rather than a collective alliance stance. The issue may still feature in political debates during the campaign. The alliance has chosen to focus on broader governance and development issues. The electoral contest in Puducherry is expected to be closely watched.
