CM Mohan Yadav Urges Congress To Examine Poll Defeats Instead Of Blaming EC
Mohan Yadav criticised Congress over its approach to poll defeats.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Thursday criticised the Congress for attributing its electoral setbacks to the Election Commission, urging the party to examine its organisational and leadership weaknesses. His remarks came as the opposition stepped up protests against the poll panel over electoral-roll issues and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.
Yadav questioned the Congress's criticism of the Election Commission by pointing to states where the party has formed governments through the same electoral system. He cited Congress-led governments in Kerala and Himachal Pradesh as examples, arguing that the party's victories would also have been made possible through the constitutional electoral process it now questions.
The Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister also referred to the Congress's political position in several states, including Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. He argued that the party should examine the reasons behind its prolonged electoral difficulties and focus on strengthening its organisation and leadership rather than attributing repeated defeats to the poll panel.

Yadav's remarks came as Congress and other opposition parties continued demonstrations against the Election Commission. The opposition has raised allegations concerning electoral-roll revisions and has demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and other INDIA bloc leaders have participated in protests in New Delhi in recent days.
In Madhya Pradesh, the state Congress unit was also preparing a foot march in Bhopal in support of Rahul Gandhi. State Congress president Jitu Patwari and Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar were scheduled to lead the demonstration, following an earlier protest outside the Chief Electoral Officer's office after Gandhi's detention during a Delhi demonstration.
Yadav further argued that electoral disagreements should not become grounds for undermining constitutional institutions. His comments add to the wider political dispute over the Election Commission and SIR, with the ruling BJP defending the poll process while opposition parties continue to demand greater accountability and raise concerns over the handling of electoral rolls.
