CM Commends D.K. Shivakumar’s Leadership, Commitment to Congress Party in Karnataka

CM Siddaramaiah praises D.K. Shivakumar’s six-year KPCC tenure, citing organisational skills and party commitment.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday congratulated Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on completing six years as President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), lauding his leadership, organisational skills, and unwavering commitment to the party.

Siddaramaiah highlighted Shivakumar’s dedication to the Congress party despite facing challenges, including what he described as false cases and harassment from the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). “This reflects his uncompromising commitment to the Congress party. His conduct has been inspiring for lakhs of Congress workers,” the Chief Minister said, noting that Shivakumar had become a role model for young leaders within the party.

The Chief Minister further praised Shivakumar’s efforts in consolidating the party and defeating what he termed “communal forces,” emphasizing their joint work to foster peace and harmony across Karnataka. He also expressed confidence in Shivakumar’s political future and voiced hope that the Congress party would return to power in the 2028 state elections. “It is the wish of all of us that the Congress party should come back to power in 2028. I will also join the party’s organisational work and struggles to achieve that goal,” Siddaramaiah said.

During the Assembly proceedings, Shivakumar also defended Siddaramaiah against criticism from BJP leaders on the State Budget 2026–27. Addressing a protest staged by BJP members with empty vessels on the day the budget was presented, he remarked, “You have brought empty vessels to Vidhana Soudha to protest even before the presentation of the Budget. This shows your attitude. We call Nirmala Sitharaman’s Budget an empty vessel.”

Senior BJP legislators, including Deputy Leader of the Opposition Arvind Bellad and State General Secretary V. Sunil Kumar, questioned Shivakumar’s involvement in the budget process, noting that he had not attended preliminary meetings for his departments. Shivakumar responded briefly, telling the opposition that their assumptions were misplaced, while Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka noted that Shivakumar had already conveyed his views in New Delhi.

The remarks and Assembly exchange underscored Shivakumar’s dual role as a party organiser and active legislator, reflecting the ongoing political dynamics in Karnataka as the state government seeks to consolidate its achievements and strengthen party cohesion ahead of future elections.
