Chirag Paswan Announces NDA’s Groundbreaking Seat‑Sharing Deal for Bihar 2025
Chirag Paswan heralds NDA’s watershed Bihar seat-sharing formula with BJP and JD(U) going equal.
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Bihar has reached a critical milestone in its preparations for the upcoming assembly elections, with Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) president Chirag Paswan announcing the finalization of the coalition’s seat-sharing arrangement. Speaking on Tuesday, Paswan highlighted the unity among NDA partners under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released its first list of 71 candidates for the 101 seats it will contest in the 243-seat Bihar Vidhan Sabha.
The NDA’s seat-sharing deal, finalized after “amicable discussions,” allocates 101 seats each to the BJP and Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)), marking a significant shift in Bihar’s political landscape. For the first time since 2005, when JD(U) joined the NDA, the two major partners will contest an equal number of seats, a departure from JD(U)’s historical dominance in the state’s coalition dynamics. Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) secures 29 seats, while the Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) and Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) (HAM(S)) are allotted six seats each, ensuring a broad representation of coalition partners.
Paswan emphasized the coalition’s readiness, stating on X, “The issue of seat allocation among NDA parties has been resolved through amicable discussions. The discussion on which party will contest which seat is also in its final stage with positive talks.” He further underscored the NDA’s unified front, adding, “Under the leadership of Modi ji and Nitish ji, all NDA parties are fully prepared with unity. Bihar is ready. NDA government.” The announcement follows the NDA’s formal declaration of the seat-sharing arrangement two days prior, setting the stage for a fiercely contested election.

The Bihar assembly elections are scheduled for November 6 and 11, 2025, with vote counting set for November 14. The BJP’s release of 71 candidates signals the coalition’s aggressive campaign strategy, aiming to consolidate its position in a state where electoral battles have historically been intense. The equal distribution of seats between BJP and JD(U) reflects a strategic recalibration, potentially reshaping voter perceptions and coalition dynamics in Bihar’s complex political arena.
As the NDA gears up for the polls, the finalized seat-sharing and candidate list underscore its determination to present a united front. With key constituencies now assigned and campaign momentum building, all eyes are on Bihar as the state prepares for a pivotal electoral showdown that could redefine its political future.
