Chandigarh Schools Evacuated Again as Serial Bomb Threat Emails Continue to Terrorise Tricity
Hoax bomb threat emails triggered evacuation of 21 Chandigarh schools during ongoing CBSE examinations.
At least 21 private and government schools in Chandigarh received bomb threat emails on Friday, triggering immediate evacuations and security sweeps. Officials later confirmed the threats were hoaxes, with no suspicious objects found on any campus.
This is the fourth such incident involving tricity schools in the past month. Since January 28, multiple public places — including schools, hospitals and government buildings across the Chandigarh-Panchkula-Mohali region — have received similar bomb threat emails on eight occasions.
The emails surfaced while CBSE Class 10 students were appearing for their information technology examination, causing panic among students and parents. Police quickly activated standard security protocols, deploying bomb disposal squads, fire services and search teams to the affected campuses.

Among the private institutions that received the mail were Vivek High School, Delhi Public School, Carmel Convent School, Shivalik Public School, Chitkara International School and St John's High School. Government schools, including Government Model Senior Secondary School, GMSSS-10, GMSSS-8, GMHS-41 and GMHS-48, were also targeted.
School authorities said precautionary steps were taken immediately. At Vivek High School, younger students were sent home, while board exam candidates were allowed to return after the bomb squads cleared the premises. Students described anxious scenes as police personnel conducted drills across campuses.
Police have confirmed all recent threat emails have turned out to be hoaxes, but investigations are underway to identify those responsible and prevent further disruptions.
