Buffett, Currys Unite to Turn a Charity Lunch Into a Multi-Million Dollar Auction Event
Buffett revives charity lunch with Currys supporting Glide and children's foundations.
Billionaire investor Warren Buffett has revived his iconic charity lunch initiative after a four-year pause, partnering with NBA star Stephen Curry and entrepreneur Ayesha Curry to launch a reimagined fundraising format titled “A Seat at the Table Auction.” The collaboration brings together financial influence and celebrity appeal to raise funds for social causes, marking a fresh chapter in one of the world’s most high-profile charity events.
The revival of the initiative comes in the wake of the passing of Rev. Cecil Williams, founder of the GLIDE Foundation, which has long been the primary beneficiary of Buffett’s charity lunches. The renewed effort aims to attract new donors and sustain the organisation’s work in supporting vulnerable communities, while also expanding its reach through a broader philanthropic network.
Under the new format, proceeds from the auction will be shared between GLIDE and the Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation, founded by Stephen and Ayesha Curry. The foundation focuses on improving access to education, nutrition, and physical activity for children in underserved communities, particularly in the Oakland area, aligning with the couple’s longstanding commitment to social impact.

Buffett highlighted the importance of collaboration between businesses and nonprofit organisations in driving meaningful change, noting that the initiative blends financial backing with public engagement. The Currys also emphasised the role of access and opportunity in transforming lives, expressing optimism that the auction would generate tangible benefits for families and students across their community.
The auction is scheduled to take place online from May 7 to May 14 on eBay, with the winning bidder receiving the opportunity to attend a private lunch with Buffett and the Currys in Omaha on June 24, 2026. The experience will include access for up to seven guests, making it one of the most exclusive charity offerings of the year.
In previous editions, Buffett’s charity lunches have raised more than $50 million, with a record-breaking bid of $19 million recorded in 2022. With the added influence of the Currys and a refreshed format, the upcoming auction is expected to draw significant attention and potentially set new benchmarks in philanthropic fundraising.
