"Body and Soul With Iran" — Mehbooba's Passionate Protest Echoes Kashmir's Deep Solidarity
Mehbooba demands India condemn Iran attacks, citing Kashmir solidarity and historical oil support.
Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday criticised the Union government for what she described as its silence over the ongoing crisis involving Iran.
Addressing the media at her party office in Srinagar, Mufti said she was disappointed that the Centre had neither condemned the attacks nor expressed solidarity with the Iranian people. She added that people in Kashmir felt emotionally connected to Iran during the ongoing tensions in the region.
Mufti also recalled Iran’s past support to India on the Kashmir issue and said the country had earlier extended help to India by supplying oil on credit during difficult times. According to her, this historical support should not be ignored by the Indian government during the current crisis.

The PDP leader further demanded the withdrawal of an FIR filed against Aga Ruhullah Mehdi, the Member of Parliament from Srinagar, and former Srinagar mayor Junaid Azim Mattu. She said people should not be forced into silence for expressing their views on international developments.
Mufti also alleged that several young women had been detained by the police for protesting against the attacks on Iran. She criticised the authorities for taking action against demonstrators who, according to her, were exercising their right to speak out.
During the press interaction, Mufti burnt portraits of Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu as a mark of protest against the actions of the United States and Israel. The remarks come at a time when tensions in the Middle East have escalated, drawing political reactions from leaders across India as well.
