BL Santosh Begins Two-Day Punjab Tour To Strengthen BJP Organisation

The BJP has stepped up its organisational preparations in Punjab ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections, with national general secretary (organisation) BL Santosh arriving in the state for a two-day programme. The visit comes amid discussions over a possible alliance between the BJP and the Shiromani Akali Dal and follows the party's recent organisational restructuring in Punjab. Santosh is scheduled to meet leaders and grassroots functionaries across several regions to assess election preparedness.

The BJP has maintained that it intends to contest all 117 Assembly seats in Punjab in the upcoming elections. Addressing the first zonal meeting in Patiala, Santosh said the party was prepared to contest every seat and form the government in the state. His remarks underline the BJP's stated intention to expand its independent organisational and electoral footprint in Punjab, where the party has traditionally faced challenges in building a strong statewide base.

Santosh, who holds the BJP's national general secretary (organisation) post, is a key link between the party and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He retained the position during the BJP's recent organisational changes. He is accompanied on the Punjab visit by BJP national joint general secretary Saudan Singh, who handles RSS-BJP coordination across northern states. The meetings are focused on reviewing organisational functioning and strengthening coordination among party units.

The programme covers major regions including Patiala, Bathinda, Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Amritsar. Santosh chaired meetings in Patiala and Bathinda, bringing together representatives from multiple Assembly areas. The Patiala meeting covered Mohali, Patiala North, Patiala Urban, Patiala South, Fatehgarh Sahib and Sangrur, while the Bathinda meeting included Barnala, Mansa, Bathinda Rural and Urban, Muktsar Sahib, Fazilka and Faridkot.

Further organisational meetings are scheduled in Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Amritsar. The Ludhiana meeting will bring together leaders from Ludhiana Rural and Urban, Moga, Jagraon, Khanna, Malerkotla and Ropar, while the Jalandhar meeting will cover areas including Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Nawashahar and Kapurthala. The final meeting in Amritsar will include representatives from Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur, Batala, Pathankot and Ferozepur, along with a separate meeting with state general secretaries.

Santosh's visit also comes soon after the restructuring of the Punjab BJP, which reportedly left some senior leaders dissatisfied. Besides reviewing the party's grassroots machinery, his meetings are expected to address internal concerns and improve coordination among leaders and workers. The organisational push signals that the BJP is beginning preparations well ahead of the 2027 polls, even as the possibility of an electoral understanding with the Shiromani Akali Dal remains a subject of political discussion.
