BJP’s Mafia-Free Claim False, Alleges Akhilesh
Yadav claims smaller mafias merged under BJP rule.
Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led Uttar Pradesh government on Monday, alleging rampant corruption and the emergence of a "mega-mafia" in the state. In a fiery post on X, Yadav cited the recent arrest of Kanpur lawyer Akhilesh Dubey as evidence of a deep-rooted "triangle of BJP corruption" involving the state government, corrupt officials, and complicit lawyers.
Yadav accused the Yogi Adityanath government of shielding corrupt elements, claiming, "The corrupt BJP government, involved in fake encounters, protects officials amassing black money, while corrupt lawyers cover their misdeeds." He criticized the government’s anti-mafia campaign, sarcastically noting that "crores-earning corrupt individuals" evaded detection until their extortion rackets were exposed. "Will bulldozers now target this BJP-backed land mafia, or will a bigger extortionist silence the issue with hush money?" Yadav questioned.
The SP leader challenged the BJP’s claim that Uttar Pradesh is "mafia-free," asserting, "Smaller mafias have merged into a mega-mafia under BJP rule." His remarks referenced the August 6 arrest of lawyer Akhilesh Dubey and his aide Lavi Mishra in Kanpur, following 'Operation Mahakal,' a month-long police crackdown on extortion rackets and land mafias. The duo allegedly ran a sophisticated extortion scheme, filing false rape cases to blackmail high-profile individuals, including BJP leader Ravi Satija, and misusing legal processes for personal gain.

Police investigations revealed that Dubey’s racket had targeted multiple victims over years, amassing significant wealth through coercion. The arrests have sparked a political firestorm, with Yadav leveraging the scandal to accuse the BJP of enabling systemic corruption. He urged greater transparency and accountability, questioning whether the government’s signature bulldozer actions against illegal encroachments would extend to its own allies.
The controversy has intensified political tensions in Uttar Pradesh, with opposition parties rallying behind Yadav’s claims, while the BJP defends its anti-crime measures. As investigations continue, the case underscores ongoing concerns about governance and law enforcement integrity in the state.
