BJP’s ‘Corrupt’ Allies Must Resign, Says Kejriwal
AAP chief accuses BJP of shielding corrupt leaders.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal took aim at Union Home Minister Amit Shah, questioning whether leaders who induct “corrupt” individuals into their parties should resign. The jab came in response to Shah’s remarks on proposed bills that would bar prime ministers, chief ministers, or ministers from holding office if jailed for over 30 days on charges carrying penalties of five years or more.
Kejriwal, posting in Hindi on X, challenged Shah’s stance: “If someone includes people guilty of serious crimes in their party, clears their cases, and makes them ministers or chief ministers, should they resign? If someone is falsely jailed and later proven innocent, how many years should the minister who framed them get?” AAP has long accused the BJP of absorbing tainted leaders, dubbing it a “washing machine” for clearing their legal troubles.
Kejriwal, arrested last March by the Enforcement Directorate in an excise policy-linked money laundering case, became the first sitting chief minister to be jailed. He claimed he ran Delhi’s government from jail for 160 days, contrasting it with the current BJP-led administration. “In seven months, BJP has ruined Delhi. People now miss the jail-run government,” he said, citing uninterrupted power, water supply, free healthcare, and controlled private schools during his tenure.

The proposed Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, 2025, introduced in Parliament’s Monsoon session, has sparked controversy, with critics alleging it could be used to target political rivals. AAP claims its leaders, including Kejriwal, have faced false charges orchestrated by the BJP-led central government. The exchange underscores the escalating political feud between AAP and BJP, with Kejriwal framing Shah’s remarks as hypocritical amid allegations of selective justice.
