BJP Slams Congress’ Vote Rally as Pure Drama
BJP calls Rahul Gandhi’s protest a baseless stunt.
Karnataka BJP president B Y Vijayendra on Friday dismissed the Congress’ ‘Vote Adhikar Rally,’ led by Rahul Gandhi in Bengaluru, as a “political gimmick” devoid of truth. Speaking at a press conference, Vijayendra accused the Congress of hypocrisy for opposing the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voters’ lists in Bihar while simultaneously alleging fake voters in Karnataka during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The rally, held at Freedom Park, saw top Congress leaders, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and Deputy CM D K Shivakumar, join Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha. On Thursday, Gandhi claimed Congress led in six of seven Assembly segments in Bangalore Central but lost the Lok Sabha seat due to irregularities in the Mahadevapura segment, which favored the BJP.
Vijayendra rejected these claims, stating, “There’s no substance to Rahul’s allegations. He had 45 days post-election to file a complaint, but neither he nor the Congress candidate did.” He further questioned Congress’ opposition to Bihar’s SIR, which aims to eliminate discrepancies like fake or duplicate voters. “If Rahul is serious about electoral integrity, why oppose a process to clean up voter lists?” he asked.

Citing historical context, Vijayendra recalled that in 2005, Mamata Banerjee, then an MP, raised concerns about illegal Bangladeshi voters in West Bengal, only to be suspended from the Lok Sabha. He also refuted Gandhi’s claim that surveys predicted 16 Congress wins in Karnataka, noting the BJP’s own seat count dropped from 25 in 2019 to 17 in 2024. “Should we claim foul play?” he challenged.
Vijayendra dismissed Gandhi’s assertion of unusual evening voting in Karnataka, explaining that voting often peaks later due to cooler weather. He urged Congress to focus on facts rather than “frustrated” theatrics, emphasizing that the BJP remains committed to transparent elections.
