BJP Launches 'Mission Bihar' With 40 Leaders, Targets Key Assembly Seats

BJP’s “Mission Bihar” mobilises 40 leaders, including Shah, Modi, and Yogi, ahead of November assembly elections.

As the Bihar Assembly elections approach next month, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is rolling out an ambitious "Mission Bihar" initiative. This high-energy campaign by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) seeks to rally support, fortify alliances, and address voter fatigue by blanketing critical areas from the western borders of Champaran to the vital Kosi region.

Amit Shah Leads with Over 35 Rallies

At the forefront is Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the BJP's master tactician, who is set to conduct more than 35 public meetings statewide. Insiders reveal that the emphasis is on bolstering NDA cohesion at the local level and mitigating backlash in seats the party secured in 2020.

Shah kicked off his tour on October 17, after landing in Patna the previous day for a three-day stay. His schedule features addresses in key spots like Korha, Darbhanga, Keoti, Gopalganj, Paroo in Muzaffarpur, Bettiah, Motihari, and Katihar. In addition to rallies, he will convene private sessions with Bihar BJP figures to lock in the coalition's electoral blueprint post-candidate reveal.

Yogi Adityanath Targets 24+ Constituencies

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, a crowd-puller for the BJP, is slated for over 24 rallies, zeroing in on northern and central Bihar. The party views his charisma as a key driver for energising supporters in these zones.

Leveraging shared cultural and linguistic ties with eastern UP, Yogi's route includes:

  • Mithilanchal region: Dhaka, Riga, Khajauli, Bisfi, Darbhanga, and Jale
  • Seemanchal area: Farbisganj, Purnia, Katihar, and Pranpur
  • Western districts: Chanpatia, Govindganj, and Gopalganj

Rajnath Singh and JP Nadda Join the Fray

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is undertaking a broad sweep, spanning Saran, Mithilanchal, Seemanchal, and the central-western flatlands. Highlights include Hajipur and Buxar, along with Chiraiya, Bathnaha, Goreakothi, Chapra, Rajnagar, Katihar, and Banka—spots with high electoral stakes.

Meanwhile, BJP national chief and Union Health Minister JP Nadda is prioritising organisational strengthening through targeted visits to Ramnagar (Bagaha), Jale in Darbhanga, and Lauriya.

PM Modi's Strategic Interventions

BJP insiders indicate that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's itinerary is in the works, prioritising NDA-vulnerable areas where his widespread popularity can make a difference.

Modi's events—rallies and roadshows—will each span 15-20 segments, amplified by live broadcasts to penetrate remote villages effectively.

Nomination Drive and Broader NDA Plan

The NDA has segmented Bihar into zones for candidate submissions between October 15 and 18, with top alliance members on hand in every district. Over a dozen CMs from BJP-governed states and multiple Union Ministers are lined up for these proceedings. A comprehensive four-day plan outlines rigorous promotion and teamwork, all geared toward sustaining the NDA's stronghold in Bihar's arena.

The 243-seat Bihar Assembly faces voting in two phases on November 6 and 11, with results due on November 14.
