BJP MP Nishikant Dubey Claims Biju Patnaik was CIA-Nehru Link; BJD Fires Back Sharply

Nishikant Dubey has sparked a political controversy by claiming that former Odisha Chief Minister Biju Patnaik acted as a “link” between Jawaharlal Nehru, the US government, and the Central Intelligence Agency. The remarks have drawn sharp criticism from leaders of the Biju Janata Dal, triggering a fresh political debate.

Dubey, while speaking to reporters, alleged that Nehru fought the 1962 war with China with American support and in collaboration with CIA agents. He further claimed that Patnaik played a key intermediary role, citing historical letters that he said referenced communications involving US officials and defence matters.

The statements were strongly countered by Sasmit Patra, who accused Dubey of maligning the legacy of a revered leader for political purposes. Patra emphasised that Biju Patnaik is widely respected in Odisha and beyond for his contributions to India’s freedom struggle and international humanitarian efforts.

Biju Patnaik, after whom the BJD is named, served as Odisha’s chief minister twice and is remembered for his daring missions, including rescuing Indonesian leaders during their independence struggle in 1947. He also played a role in critical operations during World War II, earning recognition for his aviation skills and courage.

The controversy highlights ongoing political tensions, with historical interpretations becoming a point of contention between parties. As the debate intensifies, the focus remains on the accuracy of the claims and the broader implications for political discourse surrounding prominent figures in India’s history.
